Enhanced Phone Number Collection for U.S. Wireless Industry Compliance

DATE:
AUTHOR: The Avidon Health team

To meet U.S. wireless industry requirements, we have updated how member phone numbers are collected and used within our system. For accounts with SMS functionality enabled, members must now provide explicit consent to receive text messages when submitting their phone number, ensuring compliance standards are met and member preferences are respected.

Key Highlights & Details

Applies Only to SMS-Enabled Accounts

  • This update only affects accounts that have SMS functionality enabled.

Member Consent

  • Members must explicitly consent to receiving text messages when entering or updating their phone numbers—whether in the My Profile section or via a phone number field in a Flow.

Admin/Coach Consent on Behalf of Members

  • When an Admin or a Coach updates a member’s phone number (e.g., via Member Admin or in a Flow), they will be prompted to acknowledge and accept SMS consent on behalf of the member.

Cases Where Consent is Considered Pre-Obtained

  • If phone numbers are automatically provided through clients using SSO or user eligibility files, we assume the client has already obtained the necessary member consent.

Benefits of this Update

This update strengthens trust by ensuring members have control over their communication preferences while helping clients maintain compliance with industry standards. It's a step forward in protecting privacy and fostering positive member experiences.
